Garry Disher grew up on his parents' wheat and wool farm in southern Australia and received his master's degree in Australian history in 1978. Now the author of more than thirty-five books for readers of all ages, his published works include writers' handbooks, history texts, short story collections, and novels. The Bamboo Flute won the 1993 Australian Children's Book Council Book of the Year Award and was named to two Best Book lists in the United States. Garry lives near Melbourne, Australia.
