When Ross Collins's mother gave him his first apple, he devoured the whole thing - including the stem, seeds, and core. He has since grown a little more choosy, refusing to eat fish or eggs, but cultivating a fondness for all kinds of soup, especially his mum's Christmas chicken broth and his own famous broccoli recipe. Alvie Eats Soup is the second title Ross has illustrated for Arthur A. Levine Books. Of the first, The No-Nothings and Their Baby by Anne Mazer, Booklist wrote that "the bright, whimsical illustrations. . . abound with color, action and humorous detail." Ross eats soup in Glasgow, Scotland.
