Levine Querido is seeking an intern for Spring and Summer 2024 to support our staff across editorial, managing editorial, marketing, and publicity. LQ is an independent children’s publisher based in Hoboken, NJ, founded by Arthur A. Levine in 2019, and distributed by Chronicle Books. In our short five-year history, we have won awards including the Newbery, Printz, Pura Belpré, Batchelder, Sydney Taylor, and Stonewall. We are dedicated to publishing books for children of all ages (picture books through young adult; even some adult books) that reflect the diversity of the world around us!
As an intern at Levine Querido, you will be exposed to all phases of the publishing process, from editorial to production to publicity and marketing. We are open to tailoring the internship to the hire’s respective fields of interest. You will have the unique opportunity to work at a small independent publisher with eyes on every aspect of the industry. We are a close-knit, passionate staff and welcome collaboration and conversation. We are looking for a talented and creative intern to assist our team!
This is a part-time paid internship. Interns based locally will be expected to come into the office, but remote candidates will be considered.
The Spring internship will run from April-June.
The Summer internship will run from June-August.
Intern responsibilities include:
Reading manuscript submissions and writing reader’s reports
Providing editorial notes on manuscripts for editors
Assisting with social media and the creation of graphics
Updating title information and metadata
Attending and actively participating in weekly staff meetings
Assisting with office mailings
Administrative support
Qualifications:
Strong communication and organizational skills
Interest in children’s book publishing
A passion for beautiful books
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe
